WE ARE CREATIVE
Overcoming the climate crisis will require us to radically rethink the way we structure economies, global trade, hierarchies of power, safety, and more. Creativity is a necessary and fundamental part of this work, one which we must nourish and prioritize.
Climate Critical® places strategic authority into the hands of emergent, multi-generation leaders ready to bring the generative problem solving, critical skills development, and risk tolerance necessary to solve this crisis.
We are co-powering
The scale of our challenge is enormous and will take all of us to avert compounded climate disaster. But right now the working model of climate and environmental organizations systematically disempower leaders and organizers of color. This is a model designed to fail, everyone.
Climate Critical® builds power with all kinds of leaders, particularly from communities and cultures traditionally marginalized and excluded from progressive climate organizations. in our experience, Black women are a telling proxy for all of the progressive movement’s gaps in and exclusion of leadership. We seek to co-power the leadership we will need for a crisis of global magnitude.
We are caring
We cannot afford to lose people in this work — and that includes and certainly not to burnout and exhaustion. Care and repair is a mandatory part of successful movements, not a luxury. If we want to succeed we must tend to our relationships with one another, our trauma as individuals and community, recognize multigenerational wisdom, and nourish our creativity, art, and emotional health.
Climate Critical® supports transformation of the culture of environment, climate and energy organizations to end the practice of treating leaders and organizers as infinite resources to be exploited until replaced.
We are CRITICAL
Leaders of the global north got us into this. It will take a different type of leadership to get us out.
Climate Critical® believes that we will fail to overcome this climate emergency if our movements cannot adjust to follow the leadership emerging from Black women and people of the global majority. We are critical to this work and we have no time to waste in putting it into motion for durable solutions.
